100-mile check up

December 01, 2020 08:22

If you have recently purchased a bike we would recommend getting your 100-mile service carried out at a Brompton retailer. Please note that the cost of this service will be at the retailer's discretion.

Certain items on any bicycle take time to bed in. We advise that the service of your bike is performed to check these soon after you have bought the bike. Your local Brompton dealer will be happy to perform this important first service.

They will pay particular attention to the following items:

• Spokes
The tension of the spokes should be checked and adjustments made to suit. If a spoke becomes loose for any reason, neighbouring spokes will be carrying an extra load and may fail.

• Crank Axle Bolts & Pedals
These must be checked for tightness, if these items were loose, the aluminium cranks will almost certainly become irretrievably damaged.

• Cables
Although the cables are pre-stretched, inevitably there is a further initial stretch. As this affects hub-gear control, the gears should be checked for correct adjustment. It's well worth setting the brakes at the same time.
