Due to shipping, sales taxes and differences in currencies, Bromptons are priced differently around the world. We understand that the Brompton is a premium product, but we assure you that our prices are not inflated as part of some kind of branding exercise. Indeed, the margins we make are almost certainly much lower than most other bike brands (particularly those based in the Far East).
In terms of what contributes to the current price of a Brompton there are a number of factors:
- We are a manufacturing firm based in West London (the last producer of transport in the capital). Consequently, the labour costs of our skilled employees are higher than those of a mass production firm in Taiwan.
- The price of steel worldwide has risen significantly in recent years as well as the price of shipping. It is no surprise that the price of bikes (and this is across virtually all brands) has increased over the past 3 years.
- Sterling has weakened. With many components coming from abroad the lower value of the currency in the UK has a big impact on the price of bikes.
- An increase in quality – Brompton bikes have been constantly evolving and the components and standard of engineering on a Brompton today are higher than ever before.
We hope that this provides an insight into current pricing levels. For up to date information please consult your local dealer, the details of which can be found on our dealer locator.
Note: Bicycles with identical specifications may not be for sale at identical prices in all parts of the world, because of differences in the costs of bringing the bicycle to the market place in each territory.
